Supported Independent Living (SIL)
Professional NDIS support tailored to your needs
Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an NDIS-funded support designed for participants with higher support needs who require assistance or supervision throughout the day and overnight (24 hours a day, 7 days a week) to live safely and as independently as possible in their home. SIL funds the support workers, not the accommodation itself. Advanced Care Network (ACN) is a registered SIL provider.
Purpose of Supported Independent Living (SIL)
ACN SIL services aims to:
- Support participants to live in their own home or a shared living arrangement.
- Build skills for greater independence.
- Assist with daily activities that the participant cannot complete independently.
- Promote choice, control, dignity, and community participation.
What SIL typically includes
Depending on the participant's NDIS plan, SIL supports may include:
- Personal care (showering, dressing, grooming, toileting)
- Medication assistance and monitoring
- Meal planning and preparation
- Household cleaning and laundry
- Budgeting and shopping assistance
- Support with appointments and transport
- Behaviour support implementation (where applicable)
- Overnight support (active or sleepover)
- Development of independent living skills
- Assistance with social and community participation
What SIL does not include
SIL funding generally does not pay for:
- Rent or mortgage
- Utility bills
- Groceries and personal expenses
- Home modifications (funded separately if approved)
- Clinical healthcare services funded by the health system
